Robert L. Gort, 90, of Peoria, passed away at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Funeral services to celebrate Robert’s life will be at noon on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at New Morning Star Baptist Church in Peoria, with the Rev. Cleveland Thomas, Sr. officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
He was born on March 12, 1920 in Hillhouse, MS, to the union of Elbert and Ida (Hughes) Gort. They preceded him in death, along with two brothers and two sisters.
Robert married Cora May Lewis on December 21, 1941 in Pace, MS. She survives, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He retired from the TP & W Railroad and then was employed at Hunt’s Drive-In on Farmington for several years.
Robert was a member of New Morning Star Baptist Church and was a 33rd Degree Grand Master Mason with the Wilson Masonic Lodge #24 in Peoria.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He will be remembered as a very nice, humble and Christian man.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.
